Holiday New-Gadget Setup Pack
Printable step-by-step sheets for a new phone, smart TV, smart speaker, game console or laptop: the security and privacy settings to check first, and how to clear out the old one before it leaves the house.

The box is open and everyone wants to start using it. Spend about 20 minutes with the right sheet first (plus any transfer time), and the new gadget is signed in safely and set up the way you want, with a clear plan for wiping the old one before you pass it on.

Every device sheet has tick-box steps, and most also have a "good to know" or "stop and get help" box plus a fill-in area for model names and where things are kept. The sheets tell you never to write passwords or codes on them.
Covered: iPhone 11 and later with iOS 26 or 27; Google Pixel 6 and later and Samsung Galaxy phones with Android 16 or 17; Google TV, Roku TVs and players, Samsung and LG smart TVs, and Fire TV sticks and Fire TV smart TVs; Echo speakers and displays, Google Nest Audio, Nest Mini (2nd gen), Nest Hub (2nd gen), Nest Hub Max and Google Home Speaker; Nintendo Switch 2 and the Nintendo Switch family, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S; Windows 11 (versions 25H2 and 26H2) and Macs with macOS 26 Tahoe or macOS 27. Other models and older versions aren't covered, and their menus may differ.
Menu names were checked against each company's own help pages on Oct 23, 2026. Where we couldn't confirm a menu (a few LG and Samsung TV settings), the sheet says so instead of guessing.
Made for the day the new gadget comes out of the box
Best for: Families setting up a new phone, TV, speaker, console or laptop over the holidays, and the person who always ends up doing the setup for everyone else.
You'll need: The new device and the old one, both charged, your home Wi-Fi, and the account passwords for the device (for example Apple, Google, Microsoft, Nintendo, PlayStation or Amazon). Printing is optional; the PDF works on screen too.
Skip it if
Your device or version isn't on the covered list above, or you'd rather have someone set it up for you. This is a do-it-yourself pack.
Questions
Which devices does it cover?
iPhone, Android phones (Pixel and Samsung Galaxy), smart TVs and streaming sticks (Google TV, Roku, Samsung, LG, Fire TV), smart speakers and displays (Echo and Google Nest), game consoles (Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S) and laptops (Windows 11 and Mac). The exact models and versions are listed above and on page 2 of the pack.
Do I need tech skills?
No. Each sheet is a list of tick boxes with the menu path written out, for example Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. If a menu name on your screen looks a little different, the pack tells you to look for the closest match or use the search box in Settings.
How long does it take?
About 20 minutes per device, plus the time the phone, console or laptop takes to transfer or download your stuff.
Can I give it as a gift?
The pack includes a printable gift note, two to a page. Print the sheets, tuck a note in with the present, and set it up together.
Are the steps up to date?
We checked them against Apple, Google, Samsung, LG, Microsoft, Roku, Amazon, Nintendo and Sony help pages on Oct 23, 2026, and every source is listed on the last page. Companies change menus often, so a name on your screen may differ slightly.
Does it set up parental controls?
Only lightly. The console sheets point you to the First Phone & First Console Kit, which walks through the free parental controls step by step.
How do I get the file?
Instant download right after you pay. You'll land on your download page. Download the PDF and bookmark the page.
