Google Find Hub Now Warns You When You Leave a Tracker Behind

Your Android phone can finally yell at you the way an AirTag does when the bag, keys, or Moto Tag walks the other way. Google's Find Hub app is rolling out a switch called Notify when left behind. Flip it on for a compatible tracker and the phone pings you once you get far enough away that the tag is no longer near you.

Apple's Find My network has had separation alerts for years. Samsung's SmartThings did the same for Galaxy SmartTags. Find Hub was late. The toggle is showing up now for item trackers in the United States and parts of Europe, including Chipolo and Motorola's Moto Tag, and Google's own help page already documents the steps. Headphones and earbuds linked in Find Hub still don't get the switch in this first pass.

The alert is per tracker, not a global setting. Open the Find Hub app, tap the tag in your device list, then open Device details next to the item's name (some builds put a gear icon on the tag's sheet). Turn Notify when left behind on. Google's support page says Bluetooth and location need to be on, and Find Hub needs permission to send notifications, or the ping never leaves the phone.

Home gets special treatment. If your Google Account already has a Home address in Maps, Find Hub skips left-behind alerts at that spot by default so you aren't nagged every time you walk out the front door without the keys you meant to leave on the hook. You can add other quiet zones the same way: open Notify when left behind for that tag, choose Add location, and pick the office, gym locker, or anywhere else you want silence. You can also strip the Home exception if you do want a ping when something stays behind at the house.

A few limits matter more than the marketing. Only the owner of the item gets left-behind notifications. Someone you shared the tag with does not. Alerts go to one Android device at a time. Battery Saver on that phone blocks them. If the switch never appears on a headphone tile, that is expected right now; the rollout is for locator tags, not earbuds.

Update Find Hub from the Play Store if the option is missing on a Chipolo or Moto Tag. 9to5Google saw the control on Find Hub version 3.1.787-06. Engadget and The Verge both confirmed the same left-behind rollout on Nov. 6, 2026. Google first put "Left-Behind Reminders" in Play services release notes earlier in the fall, so the help article catching up is the official green light, not a rumor screenshot.

This lands right before Google's Pixel Tag arrives in stores. You do not need Google's own hardware to use the alert. Any Find Hub-network tracker that shows the toggle works the same way: turn the switch on, keep Bluetooth and location alive while you travel, and leave Home as the one place you expect silence unless you change it.
