If your iPhone Duo showed up on Friday, Oct. 23, and you bought it straight from Apple, today’s the day the standard U.S. return clock runs out. Apple’s policy counts 14 calendar days from the day you received the phone, not from the day you tapped Buy. Launch day plus fourteen lands on Friday, Nov. 6.

That window only covers phones Apple sold you — online or in an Apple Store. A carrier or big-box Duo follows that seller’s rules instead. And the clock is personal: if your tracking shows Oct. 24 or later, count 14 days from your delivery date, not from the headline.

Who hits the wall today

Apple’s U.S. standard return policy is short. You have 14 calendar days from receipt. You need the original packaging and the cords, adapters, and paperwork that came in the box. A short list of items on Apple’s returns page sit outside returns (opened software, gift cards, and a few others). Personalized or engraved gear can usually be returned but cannot be exchanged in store. A plain iPhone Duo is return-eligible.

Canada buyers get one extra day under Apple’s Canadian page: up to 15 calendar days from receipt to start a return. A launch-day Duo there lands on Saturday, Nov. 7.

UK and EU shoppers who ordered online sit under local consumer rules that MacRumors mapped against Apple’s store practice: you generally get 14 days from receipt to tell Apple you want the return, then another 14 days to ship or arrange pickup. A store walk-up purchase in those regions usually sticks to the shorter initial window. If you are outside the U.S., open Apple’s returns page for your country before you race to a store.

One more calendar trap for anyone whose Duo arrived today or later. Apple’s U.S. holiday return policy covers eligible Apple Store Online products received between Nov. 6 and Dec. 25, 2026, with returns allowed through Jan. 8, 2027. That longer holiday stretch does not rewind the clock for an Oct. 23 delivery. Carrier-financed iPhone purchases with T-Mobile or Verizon are carved out of the holiday extension and stay on the standard 14-day rule even when the box arrives in the holiday window.

How to start the return today

If you still want out, do the paperwork before the day gets away from you.

For an online Apple order, sign in to Apple’s Order Listing page with your Apple Account. Open the order, use Start a Return under the Duo, confirm the item, and print the return label (and any hazmat label the flow shows). Schedule a carrier pickup or drop the sealed box at a carrier location. Apple’s help page is the step list; type apple.com yourself rather than tapping a “refund” text that showed up this morning.

In the U.S. you can also walk into any Apple Store with the phone and the original kit. A specialist processes the return there. Exchanges in store depend on stock; if you only want your money back, say return, not exchange.

Before the phone leaves your hands, turn off Find My so Activation Lock clears. On the Duo go to Settings, tap your name, tap Find My, tap Find My iPhone, and turn it off. You will need your Apple Account password. If the phone will not unlock, remove it from Find My on iCloud.com or from another Apple device signed into the same account. Apple will not cheerfully take a locked phone that still belongs to your Apple Account.

Repackage it the way it arrived. Keep a photo of the serial and of your order confirmation. If you opened a new cellular plan with the Duo, call the carrier separately — returning the handset does not cancel the line, and Apple’s own returns page puts that fee risk on you.

Why the date matters this week

Plenty of launch-day buyers are two weeks into a foldable that still feels new: crease surveys in inboxes, shortage talk for anyone who ordered later, early screen reports Apple already agreed to replace when they qualify. None of that changes the refund calendar. A defect claim through AppleCare is a different path from a no-questions return. Today is about the refund window for Apple-bought phones that landed on Oct. 23.

If you are keeping the Duo, you do not need to do anything for this deadline. If you are on the fence, the practical move is to check the delivery date on your order, match it against the 14-day (or 15-day Canada) count, and start the return while the store and the label printer are still open.
